💥 Exhibition opening: This Saturday, 29 August 2026 at 6.00 pm

@the_latheriders are back in Frauenau! They are an international community of glass artisans who specialise in working with „cold“ glass, such as glass cutters and engravers.

Since its foundation, the group has been represented at major international glass events around the world. Its aim is to establish cold-working techniques as a distinct artistic discipline and to build a strong, global network for professionals in this field.

„We are the ones standing at the grinding wheel – working with stone, diamond, water and abrasives. The so-called ‚cold shop‘ is by no means a cold place; here, precision, texture and light come together to transform glass into sculptures,“ says @samuelweisenborn, co-founder of the „Lathe Riders“.

Back in 2023, the Lathe Riders had already come together for a symposium at @bildwerkfrauenau and organised an exhibition at the Glass Museum. The Lathe Riders are currently working in the Bildwerk’s grinding workshop at the Gaswerk.
Anyone who’d like to watch them at work can do so on Saturday 29 August, from 10 am to 4 pm.

Anyone interested, and glass enthusiasts in particular, are invited to find out more about working with cold glass. At 6 pm, the „Grit&Wheels“ exhibition, featuring the works of the Lathe Riders, will open at the Frauenau Glass Museum.

Glass can be transparent, sharp, colourful, solid or paper-thin – just as diverse as the people who shape it. In our new special exhibition, the North Rhine-Westphalia Glass Artists’ Association brings together the works of 28 different artists.
The result? 28 completely different perspectives, styles and characters, all captured in the same fascinating material. A striking demonstration of just how individual glass art can be.
