The Losch Collection in the Frauenau Glass Museum
Ursula Wallraf-Losch and Rainer Losch, Bonn, have been collecting Venetian glass art for more than four decades.
Over the years, this has resulted in an important collection, which also enjoys particular attention among experts. The focus is on the artists Tyra Lundgren, primarily for Venini, and Fulvio Bianconi as well as Murrine objects by Paolo Venini and Carlo Scarpa for Venini.
In 2018, they decided to donate part of their collection to the Frauenau Glass Museum and the European Museum of Modern Glass in Rödental.
In Frauenau, it is primarily the collection of designs by Swedish designer Tyra Lundgren for the renowned Italian manufacturer Venini. This collaboration now manifests itself in an enchanting series of birds, fish and vessels moulded freely on the stove, which elegantly dominate the space of the Losch collection.
Other objects in virtuoso kiln techniques demonstrate the skills of Italian glassmakers in examples from the animal world and decorative techniques such as intricately moulded murrine glass.
The Losch couple continue to collect and will one day leave the world a truly impressive wealth of Venetian glass culture.
"Collecting is not for the faint-hearted!"
- Rainer Losch -
You have to decide what you want to collect. In doing so, you usually commit yourself for years to come. We have been collecting glass for over 40 years, with all its ups and downs. The joy is great when we find something cheap at a flea market, but the disappointment is also great when the price at auction rises to unaffordable heights. Our collection was lucky in that we both wanted to collect glass.
